Rachel Griffin

A few years ago, Rachel Griffin was in a jazz piano lesson when her teacher asked her if she knew Bruce Hornsby’s music. She replied she had not, so her teacher got out some cds and put them on the CD player. Rachel totally freaked out when she heard his writing and playing and left that day elated and inspired, with some Bruce CDs on loan from her teacher. She quickly wore out the CDs and went digging for more material. She became a little Bruce-music-obsessed, but not in a creepy way, in a dorky-musician-who-is-amazed-by-another-musician’s-caliber-of-writing-in-the-pop-genre-way.

She went online to see if she could see him live, and she went to an outdoor concert in MA. She danced the night away and was amazed by the band and the jazz-like improvisation and spontaneous musical creation happening on the stage. Bruce is a musical mentor to Rachel now and forever and she is so grateful for his wonderful music and impeccable musicianship.

Rachel is a singer/songwriter/pianist and currently is working on an album at The Engine Room studios in NYC with J Chris Griffin (no relation) producing the album. J Chris has worked with Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and some other wonderful writers, and Rachel is very excited about their work together. Rachel won an NPR songwriting contest in 2009, an American Idol songwriting contest in 2008, and recently showcased with the NYC Songwriting Circle.
